Rosemont buys another building to make way for new cop shop

Rosemont will purchase another one-story light industrial building north of the Allstate Arena as preparations continue for a new public safety department building.

The village board Wednesday inked a contract to purchase the building at 7101-7105 Barry St. for $350,000 and some still-to-be-determined moving costs to help relocate the existing manufacturing company.

The village has bought more than a dozen similar properties along Barry Street and Lyndon Avenue over the last few years to make space for a new public safety headquarters. The one-story building could be anywhere between 70,000 and 100,000 square feet, putting construction costs in the $35 million range, officials have said.

They're still planning to acquire another three buildings, as architectural design and engineering work begins ahead of a planned spring 2020 groundbreaking.
