Aurora man fatally shot

An Aurora man was fatally shot Thursday morning, authorities said.

The victim, identified as 27-year-old Nestor Herrera, was shot multiple times around 1 a.m. outside a residence on the 0-100 block of South West Street, according to the Aurora Police Department. Herrera died during surgery, police said.

About an hour later, officers located a vehicle that matched the one reported leaving the scene of the shooting. A police chase ended when the vehicle crashed at Route 34 and Hill Avenue, authorities said.

Several people were taken into custody, but police provided no information about charges.
