Buffalo Grove finance director in talks for Barrington village manager job

Buffalo Grove Finance Director Scott Anderson confirmed Wednesday he is in negotiations with Barrington leaders to become the town's next village manager.

The Barrington village board is expected to discuss the contract with Anderson on Monday.

A pending agreement calls for a $180,000 base salary, a $27,000 contribution for health and life insurance, and a $6,000 vehicle allowance.

Anderson said he cannot discuss specifics of the ongoing negotiations.

"I'm excited about it," he said.

Patty Dowd Schmitz, Barrington's communication and events manager, said the village board on Monday will consider hiring a new village manager.

Anderson began work in Buffalo Grove as a police officer in 1992. He then worked under former Finance Director and Village Manager William Brimm, before becoming finance director himself. Under Anderson, Buffalo Grove has maintained a AAA bond rating.

In Barrington, Anderson would succeed Village Manager Jeff Lawler, who in December announced plans to retire. Like Anderson, Lawler has a law enforcement background, serving as the village's police chief for 13 years before becoming village manager in 2009, two weeks after retiring from police work.
