New contract for Mundelein High School support workers

Secretaries, instructional aides, security personnel and other employees at Mundelein High School will receive pay raises under a new, 5-year labor agreement.

The Mundelein High School District 120 board unanimously approved the contract with the Mundelein Educational Support Association on Wednesday. Union members ratified the pact in March, according to district documents.

The pact covers 73 employees working in a variety of roles.

The agreement is effective July 1, and it expires June 30, 2024.

Secretaries, instructional aides, and sign language interpreters will receive annual 2.75% pay bumps for the duration of the contract, said Shane McCreery, the school's human resources director.

Security workers will see their pay increase 3% annually, McCreery said.

Additionally, the school's nurses will be paid $46.26 an hour starting in the 2019-20 term, up about 4.8% from $44.16 per hour. Their pay will rise incrementally to $55.69 per hour by the 2023-24 school year, McCreery said.

Starting salaries will increase for each type of support worker. The hourly rates will differ based on the type of position, as well as the education and professional experience of the employee.

Some support employees work nine months out of the year, and some are 10-month workers. Some work year-round.

Negotiations between the school board and union took two months. McCreery described labor negotiations as "amicable, efficient and collaborative."

A union representative couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
