Via Crucis processions take place in the suburbs for Good Friday

Arlington Heights, Palatine and Elgin were among the suburbs where worshippers participated in outdoor processions on Good Friday.

Common throughout Mexico, the Via Crucis - or Living Stations of the Cross - depicts the final hours of Jesus' life.

Worshippers gathered at noon Friday outside St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic School on Anderson Drive in Palatine. The procession moved a little more than a half mile east on Anderson and under Route 53 for a turn north to Mision San Juan Diego on Wilke Road in Arlington Heights.

In Elgin, the worshippers gathered for Via Crucis at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Division Street. Children led the neighborhood procession.
