Woman cut from SUV after crash in South Elgin

A 53-year-old woman suffered minor injuries Thursday morning when the SUV she was driving ended up on its side after a two-vehicle crash in South Elgin, authorities said.

The crash happened at 10:47 a.m. at La Fox Street and Spring streets, South Elgin police Sgt. Dan Meshenky said. The SUV was traveling east on Spring Street - which has a stop sign at the intersection with La Fox Street - and was hit by a car traveling north on La Fox, he said. The investigation is ongoing, but it appears the SUV didn't yield, Meshenky said.

South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District Capt. Justin Cox said the collision occurred in sight of a fire engine that was returning to nearby Station 1 after responding to another crash.

The woman had to be cut from the SUV because it rolled over onto the driver's side, Cox said. It took about half an hour to free her, he said.

The driver and two passengers of the car suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

"As dramatic as the pictures look, it was relatively minor injuries, which was good," Cox said.

No one had been cited as of Thursday afternoon, but "tickets are a possibility," Meshenky said.
