Craig Johnson now longest serving mayor of Elk Grove Village

The Elk Grove Village Board this week presented Mayor Craig Johnson with a proclamation honoring him as the town's longest serving mayor. He officially surpassed Charles Zettek's tenure of almost 22 years on April 3.

Among other things, the proclamation pointed to his work overseeing infrastructure programs, including more than $100 million in the Elk Grove Business Park, more than $12 million in residential areas and more than $135 million in major public buildings, roads, drainage and other improvements.

It pointed to his work various boards, including chairman of the Suburban O'Hare Committee, director of the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority board and the Northwest Suburban Municipal Joint Action Water Agency.

It also pointed to his work on community events, including the Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove and the free Mid-Summer Classics Concert Series.

And it pointed to various honors and awards Johnson and the village have received, thanking him for his many years of public service.
