Garage fire leaves Bartlett home uninhabitable

One person suffered smoke inhalation Sunday while trying to extinguish a garage fire in Bartlett, fire officials said.

Crews responded about 6:33 a.m. to the 100 block of Prescott Drive, where the garage of a two-story, single-family house was on fire, according to the Bartlett Fire Protection District. The blaze was under control by 6:54 a.m., though firefighters remained on the scene to ventilate smoke and perform overhaul activities.

The fire was contained to the garage because a door leading into the house remained closed, fire officials said.

One person had been attempting to put out the fire before firefighters arrived and suffered smoke inhalation, authorities said. No other injuries were reported.

The building was deemed uninhabitable. Damage estimates were not immediately available.

An investigation is ongoing.
