Incumbents re-elected in South Elgin village board race
The three incumbents in the race for three seats on the South Elgin village board were re-elected Tuesday, according to unofficial results.
Lisa Guess had 1,029 votes, Mike Kolodziej had 921 and Scott Richmond had 857 with all precincts reporting in Kane County. Challenger Shane Hamilton came in fourth with 792 votes, followed by former trustee Bill DiFulvio with 619.
The three incumbents ran as a de facto slate, as did Hamilton and DiFulvio.
Guess, 59, who does part-time office work; Kolodziej, 58, a retired schoolteacher; and Richmond, 50, an attorney, touted their work in overseeing the village's growth with balanced budgets and lowered property tax rates for the last five years.
DiFulvio, 58, works as a site manager for an auction company. He served on the village board from 2001 to 2013.
Hamilton, 41, worked as parks superintendent in South Elgin until May 2018 and now is director of parks and facilities for the Carol Stream Park District.
Richmond, Guess and Kolodziej said they work well together, helping each other see things from different perspectives.
All three said they want to focus on maintaining and improving roadways. They also said they want to make sure the village makes the best use of funds remaining in a downtown tax-increment financing district set to expire in a few years.
DiFulvio and Hamilton, who are friends, said it's time for a change in the village. The two fought to stay on the ballot after a resident filed objections to their nominating papers.
