Aurora Historical Society to keep, display crosses from Pratt shooting

The white wooden crosses that commemorate the five people killed in the Feb. 15 shooting at the Henry Pratt company in Aurora will be transferred Sunday to the ownership of the Aurora Historical Society.

They will be picked up at 2:45 p.m. and delivered to the Pierce Art and History Center at 20 E. Downer Place.

The crosses will be displayed there through May 4 in the "Aurora Story" exhibit on the second floor.

"We are honored to be asked to hold the crosses in trust for the families and future generations," said John Jaros, the society's executive director, in a news release.

The crosses were installed by Aurora resident Greg Zanis, who places such crosses at the sites of unanticipated deaths, including shootings and plane and car crashes, nationwide.

The building will be open from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Regular hours are noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. Admission is free.

Clayton Parks, Trevor Wehner, Josh Pinkard, Russell Beyer and Vicente Juarez were killed by a co-worker at the Henry Pratt Co. Police ultimately killed the shooter.
