New security cameras to be installed in District 21
Wheeling Township Elementary District 21 has purchased nearly $1.4 million worth of security cameras and door access hardware to install at all schools this summer -- part of some $69 million worth of referendum projects authorized last fall.
District officials say the current cameras and door access system is outdated and inefficient, so they're buying new equipment. That includes the Genetec back end platform with Axis security cameras in high-definition, which allows for 30 days of video storage on servers at each building. Designated staff and law enforcement will have access via a secured application.
The contract approved by the school board Thursday is with Esscoe LLC, which will begin project management planning and nonintrusive work such as cabling in early April. Most work begins in early June and is set to wrap up in late August before the start of school.
