Palatine Public Library District hosts teen book club

The Palatine Public Library District will host a book club discussion for teenagers focusing on the novel "Dumplin'" by Julie Murphy, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

In the book, 16-year-old Willowdean Dickson wants to prove to everyone that she deserves to be a part of a beauty pageant just as much as the twiggy girls. She grapples with her feelings for a co-worker, her mother's disapproval and issues with her best friend. Still, she prepares to compete in the event that her former pageant-winning mother runs.

Copies will be available at the first-floor reader assistance desk. The book club is suitable for students in grades seven through 12. To sign up for the free program, call (847) 358-5881, ext. 132, or visit palatinelibrary.org.

The library is at 700 N. North Court.
