Jail inmate charged after choking one inmate, punching another, officials say

A 36-year-old North Chicago man and inmate at the Lake County jail was charged after getting into a fight with two other inmates March 9, according to a news release from the Lake County sheriff's office.

Timothy R. Adams was charged with aggravated battery - causing great bodily harm and battery for choking one inmate and punching another in the face, the release said.

A corrections officer found a 59-year-old Deerfield man having breathing problems on the floor of his cell, the release said. The man was transported by ambulance to Vista East Hospital in Waukegan and then transferred to another hospital with stroke-like symptoms, according to the release.

Officials found the stroke-like symptoms were caused by a fight with Adams, the release said.

Lake County sheriff's detectives found the 59-year-old inmate and Adams had gotten into a verbal argument when the corrections officer for that area of the jail was away doing rounds, Adams choked the 59-year-old and punched a 40-year-old inmate in the face, according to the release.

Adams is currently being held on $500,000 bond for his other charges, which include the aggravated vehicular hijacking of a person with a disability or over 60 years old. He is set to appear in court for his new charges Monday afternoon.

The 59-year-old inmate is set to be discharged from the hospital this week and will return to Lake County jail.
