Learn to follow your God-given intuition

"Who gives intuition to the heart, and instinct to the mind?"

- Job 38:36 (NLT)

As a young girl, I sat and played with my dolls while my mother played the piano. Enjoying the music that flowed from the piano, I took some lessons too. But I didn't seem to have the same ability my mother had for striking a chord.

I admired that my mother's intuitive knack for playing the piano didn't come from reading sheet music. She played by ear. Back in the early 1900s when someone intuitively knew how to play a musical instrument, it was referred to as playing it by ear. It means you're listening to your intuition. It's amazing what we can do when we listen to our heart.

Intuition is not something we catch from viewing things from the outside. It's God-given knowledge placed inside of us. And when we learn to tune into our God-given intuition, we can find our true selves, and the interests, creativity and talent God has placed in us.

Have you ever just known you were meant to do something, go somewhere, or not go and choose a different path, even though others disagreed? That was your intuition telling you what was right for you.

Examples of our intuition can be seen in all of nature. Birds fly south and return north, all because God has placed that knowledge in them. I was amazed as a nurse, when I watched babies emerge from the mother's womb, and when fed for the first time, instinctively knew how to suck for food. Then later, cry to have their needs met. Infants also learn to crawl, walk and run, all by this amazing gift.

Many times, I have discussed something I knew I was to do with my best friend. Oftentimes, she'd disagree with me, only to find out at a later time my intuition came true. That's why we can't sell out for listening to someone else's notion of what we should do. Just because it's right for them, doesn't mean it's right for us.

Although God uses mental intellect, our education and the things we've learned, our intuition can guide us to places to use that intellect.

An example when searching for a job, you may be looking at what your education says you're qualified for. But you decide to step out of what is the normal place to apply, and go somewhere else. You're not quite sure why, but you feel it's the right thing to do. And at a later time when you made a new friend, met your mate, or found a promotion there, you realized it was because you followed your instincts.

When Job lost all he had and questioned the ways of God, he discovered many of his answers through discovering how God uses intuition.

Learning to follow our intuition isn't always easy. The popular opinion of this world many times speaks louder than the knowing in our hearts. But if we pay close enough attention, we'll get that knowing that only our God-given instinct provides.
