Police: Aurora man caught with loaded gun, marijuana in traffic stop

A 27-year-old Aurora man faces prison after a traffic stop in which he was caught with a loaded gun and marijuana packaged for sale, according to Kane County prosecutors.

Fabian M. Arness, of the 1300 block of Grand Avenue, faces felony charges of armed violence, four counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and manufacture/delivery of 30 grams to 500 grams of marijuana with intent to deliver after a traffic stop last week.

Arness was pulled over about 7 p.m. Wednesday near Ashland Avenue and Jackson Street for reckless driving, Aurora Sgt. William Rowley said. Officers searched the vehicle, finding a loaded .46-caliber handgun and marijuana that was in smaller packages for future sale, according to prosecutors. Arness did not possess a Firearm Owners Identification card, prosecutors said.

Arness is being held at the Kane County jail on $150,000 bail. If convicted of the most severe charge, he faces six to 30 years in prison with no chance of probation. Arness also could be eligible for an extended term based on previous crimes.

Arness was sentenced to three years in prison in 2011 after pleading guilty to two weapons offenses and another three years in prison for failing to register as a sex offender.
