Police: Bartlett High School students cited for implying gun was in backpack

Three Bartlett High School students were cited for disorderly conduct after one of them implied he had a handgun in his backpack during an argument Feb. 19.

Bartlett police said Braulio Zavala, 18, implied the presence of a gun, causing the school to be placed in a temporary "hold-in-place" while officers and school administrators investigated following the 11:30 a.m. report that day.

No weapon was located during a search, and there was no indication a weapon existed, police said.

After a review with the DuPage County State's Attorney's office, Bartlett police cited Zavala and the two other students, who are juveniles, with disorderly conduct.

Zavala was released on his signature and has a scheduled court appearance April 4, at the Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows.

Though the offense occurred in DuPage County, Cook County is Bartlett's sole court venue for local ordinance violations.

Because the other two students are juveniles, information on their pending court proceedings was not available, police said.
