Elgin-area man faces prison on LSD, other drug charges
A 20-year-old Elgin-area man faces several felony charges after authorities say he was caught with LSD, cocaine, mushrooms, marijuana and Ecstasy while trespassing at his parents' house last year.
Zachary T. Lorenz, whose address was listed as his parent's house on the 10N700 block of Prairie Crossing in unincorporated Elgin Township, was arrested after a warrant was issued in early February for 10 felony drug charges, the most severe being possession of a controlled substance/LSD with intent to deliver, according to Kane County court record and the sheriff's office.
He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, records show.
Kane County Undersheriff Pat Gengler said Lorenz's father called 9-1-1 about 1:30 a.m. Oct. 10, 2018, to report his son, who had been kicked out of the Prairie Crossing house several weeks beforehand, was inside the residence.
The father was out of town at the time, but confirmed through video from his Ring camera doorbell system that the younger Lorenz was there, and he gave deputies permission to go inside, Gengler said.
Deputies found Zachary Lorenz and several other people who did not have permission to be in the house. Lorenz possessed: 110 doses of LSD; 13 grams of cocaine; 93 grams of suspected marijuana; 5.5 grams of Ecstasy; 56 grams of psychedelic mushrooms; and drug paraphernalia, Gengler said.
The charges were not authorized until this month because authorities needed to send some pills to a crime lab for testing, Gengler said. He did not have the street value of the drugs and could not specify how many other people were present or if they were charged.
Lorenz is being held at the Kane County jail on $75,000 bail, meaning he must post $7,500 if he is to be released while the case is pending.
If convicted of the most severe charge, he faces a prison term of six to 30 years without the chance of probation. He is next due in court March 20.
According to court records, Lorenz was on court supervision at the time of his arrest after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor theft charge from March 2018.
