Stevenson grad to discuss accomplishing 'explorer's grand slam'

Joel Schauer will talk about his journey to complete the "explorer's grand slam" - reaching the highest peaks of all seven continents and adventures to both the North and South poles - on Sunday afternoon at Stevenson High School.

A member of Stevenson's class of 1978, Schauer is among 48 climbers in the world to accomplish the feat. His speech, "The Climb - 7 Mountains, 7 Continents," will support the Stevenson Foundation, which provides assistance for students in need, scholarships, innovation grants and community outreach programs.

Tickets - which are $10 for general admission, $5 for students and $5 for seniors - are available online at d125.org until noon Friday, or at the door. The event is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Room 2104 of the West Building on the school's Lincolnshire campus.
