Police: Seller robbed of 'item of high value' in Naperville

A person selling what Naperville police described as "an item of high value" was robbed, and now police are seeking the public's help finding the suspect, authorities said Friday.

The robbery occurred about 11:12 p.m. Thursday in a parking lot near Ridgeland Avenue and Naperville/Wheaton Road, where police said the victim had arranged online to meet the suspect to conduct a sale.

Instead of buying the item, police said, the offender implied he had a weapon, grabbed the item and ran away from the intersection, which is home to a bank, an office goods store, a motel, a restaurant and a church. Cmdr. Mike Son said police could not describe the item that was stolen other than to say it is valuable.

But in a news release, Son said no weapon was shown and no one was injured.

The suspect is described as a white man of Hispanic descent in his early 20s who stands about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 165 to 175 pounds with an athletic build and medium-length black hair.

Police ask anyone with information to call the investigations division at (630) 420-6666.

Police also advise anyone arranging a sale online to consider the lobby of the police station at 1350 Aurora Ave. as a safe spot to complete transactions.

The lobby can be used for conducting sales from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Even when the lobby is closed, police say sellers can arrange sales in the building's parking lot, which is well-lit and video-recorded with access to an emergency phone.
