Chicago man charged in fatal hit-and-run crash in Waukegan

A 26-year-old Chicago man is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death stemming from a hit-and-run crash Feb. 3 in Waukegan.

Abdul Baloch also faces a charge of failing to stop for a motor vehicle accident involving death, authorities said Wednesday. He's being held in Lake County jail on $100,000 bail.

The charge stems from a crash reported about 11:45 p.m. Feb. 3 on the 2900 block of Grand Avenue. Officers found a man later identified as Christopher Harris lying in the street. Harris, 22, of Waukegan, died early the next morning at the hospital.

Investigators said Harris was standing in the curb lane for eastbound traffic on Grand Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle.

Investigators determined the vehicle was a silver 2005 Ford Explorer later located at Baloch's home, police said. The vehicle has been confiscated and is being processed by investigators, authorities said.

Baloch is due to appear in court March 3.
