District 300 schools to be closed for third day in a row

This article has been updated to correct a quotation from the superintendent's statement, which did not refer to any fees.

District 300, which covers Algonquin, will be closed today due to freezing weather causing issues with its buses, according to an email from District 300 Superintendent Fred Heid.

This is the third day in a row the district has been closed, due to subzero temperatures having "taken a toll on our facilities, equipment and school bus fleet," the email stated.

More than 20 percent of the district's bus fleet is out of commission, the email said. Twenty percent equals more than 35 buses covering a quarter of the district's daily routes.

A number of other programs in the area have been canceled, according to the email.

Morning programs through the Boys and Girls Club or the park district, out-of-district programs and middle school activities have all been canceled, the email said.

Programs scheduled to be held after high school will continue, according to the email.
