Missing teen in Lake Michigan is a Grayslake North student

The teen who went missing in Lake Michigan near Waukegan last week is a Grayslake North High School student.

District 127 Superintendent Mikkel Storaasli said teachers and students continue to hold out hope for the student, who has not yet been identified.

In addition, he said "counselors have been ready and available to make sure that anyone who needs to talk has plenty of support."

Storaasli would not provide the 16-year-old boy's name because authorities have not disclosed his identity

The teen went missing about 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 after jumping into the lake to help someone who had slipped off a pier at Stiner Pavilion, authorities said.

Rescue crews had to suspend their water search Tuesday because of dangerous conditions on the lake.
