Hanover Township provides PADS funding

The Hanover Township Mental Health Board recently approved $25,000 in emergency funding for PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) of Elgin to support the agency's new day shelter program. PADS began offering the program late last month as a result of another agency discontinuing the service.

The board's funding allows PADS to purchase equipment to assist in preparing, warming and serving meals to the homeless community.

"The unexpected transition of the day shelter program to PADS was challenging for many, especially during the holidays," said Kathy Biesiadecki, Mental Health Board chairwoman. "The board was adamant that there be no gap in service delivery during the winter season for some of the most vulnerable members of our community."

To date, PADS has served 55 township residents, and has plans to expand services to include budgeting and resume writing classes, as well as other vocational programs to support clients.
