Believe Project: $100 for friend struck by car

Today's recipient of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Christina Palffy of Arlington Heights. Here is an excerpt of her story:

"My dear friend was run over by a car on Oct. 24 while buying me flowers for my birthday. Her rib cage was crushed, and her lungs were collapsed.

"At the time she was on Medicaid because she had quit her job to care for her mother, who has Alzheimer's disease.

"After five weeks in the hospital, she has been released but is still in horrific pain. She has no money, and the insurance of the driver will only pay $100,000. There may be another settlement, but if it happens, it will not be soon. "She lives alone, and her mother is now in a nursing home. The $100 would be used to buy her something to make her more comfortable: firmer pillows, a Netflix subscription, or something like that.

"She is a kind and generous soul for whom this accident has been devastating emotionally, physically and financially."

• The Believe Project is awarding at least $100 daily in January to people with good ideas for how to use the money to do a good deed for someone else.
