$100 for advocate for childhood cancer research
Today's recipient of a $100 bill is Kathy Lacina of Bartlett. Here is an excerpt of her story:
"If given the opportunity, I would like to support an amazing young woman who has been fighting a rare childhood cancer, alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma or ARMS. Her family found a tumor on Christmas of 2014 when she was just 13. It was stage 4 at the time of diagnosis.
"Throughout her numerous treatments, remission and three relapses, she has maintained a very positive, fighting spirit. She has reached out to other children who are suffering the same disease and been a support for them. She also has become a very strong advocate for childhood cancer research and has raised more than $136,000 to support Dr. Walterhouse at Lurie Children's Hospital, who is doing research to find less toxic and more effective pediatric cancer treatments.
"Her goal is to raise $200,000. I would love to be able to add to what I will also give. "
• Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Believe Project now is awarding at least $100 each day in January to people with good ideas for how to use the money to do a good deed for someone else.
