Loan for Barrington's White House renovation repaid early
The village of Barrington made the final payment for a $5.5 million loan used to renovate and restore the historic White House on Main Street in 2015, officials said.
The loan was scheduled to be repaid to Barrington Bank & Trust from community donations that were pledged for the White House construction project. As a result of the accelerated receipt of many pledged contributions, the village was able to retire the loan a year early and will save an estimated $39,000 in interest costs, officials said.
In November, Barrington's White House asked for donations to support arts and culture in the village and received at least 30 year-end contributions totaling $35,000. Officials said a "significant" year-end gift from the Signal Hill chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will help the White House create historic costumes for its docents to wear there.
