All lanes of Old McHenry Road in Long Grove reopen

All lanes of Old McHenry Road in Long Grove are now open, though other improvement work along the thoroughfare will remain ongoing through the winter, Lake County transportation officials said this week.

Crews have completed the installation of temporary pavement markings and the contractor will continue excavating/shaping ditches, soil stabilization and miscellaneous cleanup work throughout the job site, according to the Lake County Division of Transportation.

During the winter months, crews will work on streetlight foundations and other electrical work, sidewalks and other miscellaneous items. Workers will resume pavement construction at the intersections, road resurfacing, landscape restoration and other related items in the spring.

The work is part of a $3.8 million project to reconstruct Old McHenry Road from the Long Grove Fire Protection District station north of Route 53 to the shared entrance drive to the village hall and Kildeer Countryside School south of Cuba Road. Other elements include a new traffic signal at Robert Parker Coffin Road, handicapped-accessible sidewalks, lighting, benches and installation of new fire hydrants in downtown Long Grove.
