Rolling Meadows man sentenced to 30 years for sexual assaults

A 36-year-old Rolling Meadows man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting two women at knife point in their homes was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Miguel Gonzalez-Cruz, of the 4000 block of Algonquin Parkway, pleaded guilty on Friday to two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault in exchange for the sentence, court records show. As a condition of his plea, Gonzalez-Cruz was ordered to register as a sexual offender for the rest of his life, according to court records. He must also pay $1,109 in fines.

One attack occurred Jan. 14, 2017, not long after the victim's husband left her and their three young children alone in their apartment. Prosecutors say the woman answered a knock at her door and came face-to-face with the defendant, who demanded money, then sexually assaulted her. DNA taken from the woman matched Gonzalez-Cruz, prosecutors said.

Another attack took place June 30, 2017, after the victim's boyfriend left the apartment. According to prosecutors, Gonzalez-Cruz approached the victim, who was standing at a window, and asked her to let him inside because "immigration was after him." She initially refused but relented after he persisted. After she let him inside, prosecutors say, Gonzalez-Cruz sexually assaulted her. DNA taken from that victim also matched Gonzalez-Cruz, prosecutors said.
