Three arrested in east side Aurora armed robbery

Three people, including a juvenile, have been arrested and charged with beating a man they knew and robbing him at gunpoint of his cellphone and wallet on Aurora's near east side last week.

Brandon A. Alcaraz-Rua, 19, of the 100 block of North State Street, and Marco L. Magana, 20, of the 700 block of Spruce Street, both of Aurora, each face a charge of felony armed robbery, which is punishable by six to 30 years in prison with no chance of probation if convicted, according to Aurora police and Kane County court records.

A 17-year-old from Aurora also was charged as a juvenile.

According to police, the three defendants and the victim, an 18-year-old from Aurora, were smoking marijuana in the early morning Friday inside a parked car in an alley on the 100 block of North Union Street. The victim was pistol-whipped and his wallet and cellphone stolen at gunpoint, police said.

The victim called police, who responded to Union and Flagg streets, and based on information provided by the victim, honed in on Alcaraz-Rua because of past encounters with him, police said. Officers went to Alcaraz-Rua's house on North State, found the car involved in the robbery parked in front with Magana and the 17-year-old still inside, police said.

Alcaraz-Rua was inside the house and all three were arrested. Authorities found the gun and victim's phone inside the car, police said. According to Kane County court records, the victim also was robbed of $60.

Alcara-Rua and Magana are next due in court Wednesday.
