Elgin police arrest man accused of burglarizing store twice

Police have arrested a man accused of burglarizing an Elgin business twice.

Kelvin Rivera-Cruz, 31, who does not have a listed address, was charged Wednesday with two counts of felony burglary and retail theft, according to a news release.

The business on the 600 block of East Chicago Street in Elgin was broken into through a window and burglarized of cash and merchandise in July. The same business again was burglarized in early September.

During the investigation, detectives identified Rivera-Cruz as the suspect using video surveillance and help from the community, police said. He was found at 1:22 a.m. Tuesday in a store on the 900 block of Summit Street and arrested, police said.

Rivera-Cruz was being held on $20,750 bond.
