Barrington duo team up for blood drive, bone marrow registry

Although separated by 10 years, Carter Bailey and Max Lewis are on a mission to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and the National Bone Marrow Registry. Bailey, 23, a cancer survivor, and Max, 13, a stem cell transplant recipient, will partner for the second annual Carter Strong & Max's Mission Vitalant Blood Drive and Be the Match Bone Marrow Registry from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 at Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District, 22222 N. Pepper Road in Lake Barrington. Bailey was a Barrington High School senior when diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2014. Max was diagnosed with aplastic anemia, a failure of his bone marrow, when he was just 11 years old.
