Melissa Etheridge, Boz Scaggs, Commodores part of Elk Grove concert lineup

Melissa Etheridge, Boz Scaggs and The Commodores are among the headliners of Elk Grove Village's 2019 summer concert series, village officials announced Tuesday night.

The 11th annual Mid-Summer Classics Concert Series will kick off on the Fourth of July and continue on four consecutive Tuesday nights in July. A record 75,000 people attended Elk Grove's five concerts last July.

"It's the most popular thing we do in the village every year," Mayor Craig Johnson said.

Here's a look at the 2019 schedule:

• July 4 - Melissa Etheridge, the folk rock singer-songwriter known for hits "Come to My Window" and "I'm the Only One," will perform during the Lions Club's annual festival at Rotary Green on Lions Drive. The night concludes with a fireworks display.

• July 9 - Boz Scaggs, who came to fame in the late 1970s with "Lido Shuffle" and "Lowdown" off his "Silk Degrees" album, will be the first to perform in 2019 on the Village Green outside the Elk Grove municipal complex, 901 Wellington Ave. All remaining shows in the series will be held there.

• July 16 - The Commodores, Motown label legends who formed at Tuskegee Institute in the late 1960s, went on to chart dance hits with "Brick House" and "Lady (You Bring Me Up)," and ballads like "Easy" and "Three Times a Lady."

• July 23 - Wynonna & the Big Noise features country music singer Wynonna Judd and her band. Judd, who hit the charts with "She Is His Only Need" and "I Saw the Light" as a solo artist, rose to fame alongside her mother in the 1980s as a country duo.

• July 30 - Night Ranger, best known for the power ballad "Sister Christian," will motor over to Elk Grove to round out the series.

The village board Tuesday night inked a $435,000 professional service contract with Elk Grove-based Entertainment Management Group to book the shows and pay artist fees. That's $30,000 less than the village spent last year.

Funds for the concerts, which are free to attend, come from the village's hotel tax, video gambling revenues, tobacco licensee fees and sponsorships. The Elk Grove Park District also makes a $50,000 contribution.

Johnson said the village could spend up to $600,000 total to put on the shows this upcoming summer, adding in costs for July 4 fireworks, insurance, and personnel such as police, fire and public works.
