Man charged with burglary of Aurora pool hall

A 42-year-old man has been charged with burglarizing an Aurora-area pool hall and robbing its owner in December 2017.

Rolando Fonseca, of the 100 block of South Spencer Street, is charged with felony robbery of a victim over 60 years old, burglary and unlawful restraint in connection with the Dec. 10 case at Velazquez Pool Hall, 57 S. LaSalle St., according to Kane County court records.

Fonseca was arrested Saturday and charged with possession of a hypodermic needle and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors, records show.

Police said the owner was opening for the day when two people entered the pool hall, tied him up, battered him and stole money.

According to court records, Fonseca is charged with taking money from the cash register drawer of the pool hall and money from the owner, and later "hog tying" his hands and feet.

Police said Fonseca was identified as a suspect at that time.

Fonseca was arrested Saturday on unrelated charges and Aurora investigators questioned him about the 2017 robbery.

"After that interview and based on evidence gathered by the case investigator, the Kane County States Attorney's Office authorized (charges against Fonseca)," Aurora police wrote in an email.

His bail has been set at $500,000 for the robbery and $10,000 for the other offenses, meaning he must post $51,000 to be released from the Kane County jail while the cases are pending.

Fonseca has had two stints in prison from at least two previous felony cases, records show.

He was charged with felony heroin possession in January 2010 after Aurora police stopped him for riding a bike at night without a headlight and later sentenced to 12 months in prison, records show.

Fonseca was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to an August 2012 burglary of 54 pounds of copper pipes and other equipment from a home on the 900 block of Claim Street in Aurora, records show.

He also was on parole at the time.

If convicted of the most severe charge, Fonseca faces up to 15 years in prison. He is next due in court on Thursday.

Police said the second suspect is still unknown at this time and at large.
