Pingree Grove lifts boil order

A boil order issued Friday in Pingree Grove after bacteria were found in the village's water supply was lifted Sunday morning, officials said.

As a precautionary measure, the village recommended that residents flush all faucets utilized for drinking water or brushing teeth for several minutes before resuming normal use.

Officials also recommend that residents throw out any ice made with water during the boil order and discard the next 2 trays of ice from automatic ice dispensers.

The village issued the boil order after total coliform or E. coli bacteria were found in the water supply. The bacteria can make people sick, and are especially dangerous to people with weakened immune systems, according to the village.

Officials said they would end the boil order after two consecutive tests showed no presence of bacteria.

The village has been operating on one well ever since its other well failed a bacteria test and was shut off. Officials said Friday's discovery was unrelated to the work under way to get the second well operational again.
