District 207 hires new principal for Maine West

Maine Township High School Township District 207 has hired a new principal for Maine West High School.

The district selected Eileen McMahon, who currently is the assistant principal for teaching and learning at Maine West, as the school's new principal starting July 1, 2019. She succeeds Audrey Haugan, who retired this year.

"Dr. McMahon is an exceptional scholar with a distinguished educational background," Superintendent Ken Wallace said in a news release. "She has proven to be an insightful and effective leader in classroom instruction and feedback related to improving instruction."

Until McMahon officially starts the job as principal, two interim principals previously hired by the district will continue to assist in the transition.

McMahon has been an assistant principal at Maine West High since 2017. Previously, she was an assistant principal for curriculum and instruction at Highland Park High School for three years. She also was an English department chairwoman at Highland Park High School and an English teacher at Bexley and New Trier high schools.

"Maine West is a terrific learning community and I embrace its high expectations," McMahon said in the news release. "I'm excited for the challenge to help every student, every staff member, and every family feel that they are connected, supported, and growing every day with us."

She will be paid a salary of $156,000.
