Authorities say repair technician found child porn on Palatine man's PC

A Palatine man was ordered held on $75,000 bail Thursday after prosecutors say a technician repairing the man's personal computer found child pornography.

Christopher Soller, 47, was arrested Tuesday on child pornography charges. He next appears in court on Nov. 29.

Soller brought his computer in for repair on May 23, telling the technician the device was "experiencing issues," said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Jennifer Gates.

About two hours later, the technician opened a file in a downloaded folder to ensure the repairs were made correctly and saw 10 to 20 files of what appeared to be child pornography, Gates said. The technician alerted Palatine police, who took custody of the computer.

Police noted 15 images of unclothed, underage children in "lewd exhibition," Gates said. All of the images were downloaded before May 23, Gates said. Soller was ordered to have no contact with anyone under age 18 and is prohibited from using the internet or a cellphone, Gates said.
