Villa wins handily in 49th House race

West Chicago Democrat Karina Villa handily beat Aurora Republican Tonia Khouri in the race for the 49th Illinois House District, where incumbent Republican state Rep. Mike Fortner is retiring.

Unofficial vote totals with all precincts in Cook, DuPage and Kane counties reporting show Villa leading with 21,302 votes to Khouri's 18,587 votes.

Villa is a school social worker and vice president of the West Chicago Elementary District 33 school board.

The 49th District includes parts of Aurora, Bartlett, Batavia, Geneva, Naperville, North Aurora, South Elgin, St. Charles, Warrenville, Wayne and West Chicago.
