Selmon, Tornatore to take seats on DuPage County Board, District 1

Democratic newcomer Ashley Selmon and Republican incumbent Sam Tornatore outpaced GOP incumbent Dino Gavanes and Democratic challenger Zahra Suratwala to win District 1 seats on the DuPage County Board.

With 95 percent of precincts reporting, unofficial totals showed Tornatore with 22,904 votes, Selmon with 20,682, Gavanes with 18,018 and Suratwala with 17,179.

Tornatore, of Roselle, has served on the board since 2012 after stints as a Bloomingdale Township and Roselle village trustee. He said he has helped oversee a program in which the county repaired or demolished more than 55 unsightly properties at no cost to taxpayers. Selmon, a nonprofit professional from Addison, says she wants to expedite the county's consolidation efforts and increase both public input and transparency on the board.
