Schakowsky wins big over Elleson for 11th term

Fiery Democrat Jan Schakowsky of Evanston won by a huge margin Tuesday night for an 11th term in the U.S. House.

Unofficial returns showed Schakowsky leading Arlington Heights minister John Elleson 166,885 to 61,228, a margin of 73 percent to 27 percent.

That margin compares to a 66 percent total Schakowsky tallied in each of her last four general elections.

One of the most liberal members of Congress, Schakowsky is a chief deputy whip for House Democrats.

Her campaign website described her as "working at the forefront of the resistance movement and fighting for values like women's rights."

The 9th Congressional District includes all or parts of Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Mount Prospect, Park Ridge, Prospect Heights and east to Evanston and part of Chicago.
