Republican State Rep. Tom Morrison of Palatine was holding a razor thin lead over his Democratic opponent late Tuesday night in his bid for a fifth term.

With 74 of 77 precincts reporting, Morrison had 20,780 votes to 20,365 votes for Maggie Trevor of Rolling Meadows, according to unofficial results.

The 54th House District includes portions of Arlington Heights, Barrington, Hoffman Estates, Inverness, Palatine, Rolling Meadows and South Barrington.

Trevor is one of a number of suburban women who ran as Democratic candidates in Tuesday's midterm election, hoping to capitalize on an expected "blue wave." The conservative Morrison, however, has held the seat for eight years.
