Two Democratic newcomers from Naperville, Sadia Covert and Dawn DeSart, defeated Republicans Janice Marie Anderson and Patricia Gustin to win two District 5 seats on the DuPage County Board.

Unofficial final vote totals show DeSart with 27,412 votes, Covert with 25,632, Gustin with 25,411 and Anderson with 21,217.

Covert is an attorney seeking office for the first time. She rose to prominence by co-authoring hate crimes legislation and said she will use her experience as a lawyer to analyze ordinances and contracts. DeSart is a former member of the Indian Prairie Unit District 204 school board who said she will be a champion for social services.
