Democrat Iqbal defeats incumbent Kojzarek in Kane County District 19

Democrat Mohammad "Mo" Iqbal was elected Tuesday to represent Kane County Board District 19, ousting Republican incumbent Kurt Kojzarek.

With all 16 precincts reporting, Iqbal of Elgin defeated Kojzarek, 3,911 votes to 3,264, according to unofficial results.

Iqbal, an attorney and civil/structural engineer, said he wants to improve traffic along Randall Road and find new revenue sources. He also opposed the stipend and benefits offered to board members.

Having served on the board since 2012, Kojzarek of Gilberts said he often serves as a voice of reason by working across party lines and promoting compromise. He supported expanding the county's tax base while also balancing the rural aspects of the area.
