No injuries in Libertyville house fire

Firefighters from more than a dozen neighboring departments assisted Libertyville in battling a blaze at a house on the 1400 block of Newgate Court today.

The fire was reported just after 9 a.m. by a resident in the house who escaped without injury.

Neighbors were also able to rescue a dog from inside the house, Libertyville Fire Department Deputy Chief Michael Pakosta said. No firefighters were injured.

Firefighters reported heavy smoke and visible fire when they arrived at the scene.

It took firefighters nearly two hours to extinguish the blaze that started in the attached garage of the two-story, wood-framed, single-family house. Pakosta said the house is uninhabitable after sustaining heavy smoke and water damage.

"Items will be salvaged from the house, but it's just not habitable right now," he said. "Once the fire reached the attic it was hard to stop it."

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. Pakosta had no estimate on the cost of the fire damage.
