Round Lake Park man identified as bicyclist killed in crash

Lake County authorities today identified William Freeman of Round Lake Park as the man killed Tuesday when struck by an SUV while riding his bicycle in Round Lake Beach.

Freeman, 56, died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries suffered about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when he was hit by a 2006 Honda Pilot while riding across Fairfield Road at Hillside Drive, authorities said.

The Pilot's driver, a 41-year-old Lake Villa man, was not injured and remained at the scene, police said.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and Round Lake Beach police continue to investigate the crash.

"Mr. Freeman's family has been notified and our deepest condolences go out to them. This is truly an awful tragedy," Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper said.

Freeman was the second bicyclist killed in eight days while crossing a Round Lake Beach road.

Francisco Suarez Lopez, 67, died Oct. 22 when a car hit him as he walked a bicycle across Route 83 near Monaville Road, authorities said.
