God is the author of time and the only one who understands it

"My times are in his hands."

- Psalm 31:15 (AMP)

As I drove down a nearby street, I enjoyed the sights of autumn. The hues of orange, yellow and red that clothed the trees and bushes on that street was a magnificent sight. It was also a reminder time was pushing us forward into a new season.

In a brief moment, I realized if I didn't enjoy the sights of fall they'd be gone; whisked away by the hands of time.

With the changing of the season also comes the changing of time. We move the hands of the clock back, to reveal the darkened sky an hour early. Simply by moving the hands of a clock or an adjustment of a few digital numbers, we are entered into a new instant.

What is it about time? As our clocks tick away, one moment begins and another ends. Every second holds a new measure of it. We carry it on our wrists, on our phones, computers, and clocks of various sorts, all to keep us aware of it.

God has created us with minds that depict time. Memories, or dreams take us away into various time frames, rather than spending that moment in the present.

Some people think they have too much of it on their hands as they while away the hours bored, lonely or misunderstood. Others can't wait for it to pass so they can enjoy a special event planned. Many can't seem to get enough of it to fill their busy days. We've even watched our TV and movie screens with fascinating time-transformation scenes, as the filmmaker sends someone to a different place and time in an instant.

Simply put, in our human reasoning, it's something we don't totally understand. It's not tangible. We can't touch it, taste it or smell it. It's invisible and yet it runs our lives as we try to grasp hold of and manage it.

In the Bible, there are many passages about time. We will never fully understand all there is to know about it. God is the author of it, and the only one who truly understands it. But if we use our faith to trust for things to come to pass in His timing, we could enjoy the blessing of peace as He ushers us in from one season of time to the next.
