Wayne Police issue warning on phone scammers

Wayne Police alerted residents to a new phone scam Tuesday.

A Wayne resident received a call on Tuesday from a man who claimed to be a Wayne Police officer. The man claimed the woman had a warrant out for her arrest and that she needed to pay money over the phone to avoid being arrested.

According to a community bulletin issued Tuesday by Wayne Police, the man had manipulated the caller ID to make it appear to the woman that the Wayne Police Department was calling.

The woman identified that the man was lying and hung up on him. She then called the real Wayne Police Department to inform them of the scam.

The community bulletin urged residents to contact the Wayne Police Department if they believe they are receiving calls from scammers.
