60 years of change, growth, celebration at St. Alphonsus Liguori School

St. Alphonsus Liguori School in Prospect Heights continues to charge on as it celebrates 60 years of Catholic school education.

"We are having a great start to the 2018-2019 school year!" exclaimed Kathy Talken, St. Al's Marketing manager.

The weekend before school started, St. Al's Athletic Department hosted a family camp out on the multi-acre backyard of the parish. It was complete with a campfire, an outdoor feature length movie, a kid's rock band, a barbecue dinner and a Sunday morning pancake breakfast on the picnic tables. It was a great way for new and current families to bond as well as an opportunity to meet new pastor, Fr. Joe Le, and Principal Janice DiVincenzo.

St. Alphonsus School's athletic program is in full swing as the boy's and girl's cross country and girl's volleyball teams have started their seasons and are having lots of fun.

"We aren't the biggest Cross Country team out there, but they run with a lot of heart" said Coach Mark Krier.

Out of a field of 146 runners, one of St. Al's junior varsity cross country runners received a ninth place finish at the St. Viator Invitational meet in August.

To raise funds for new sports uniforms, the parent run Athletic Department hosted a McTeacher night at the Mount Prospect McDonald's restaurant on Sept. 6. School families, many whose children aren't even in athletics yet, packed the place for this St. Al's fundraiser.

On Sept. 7, St. Alphonsus hosted a special visitor, Dr. Jim Rigg, the superintendent of Catholic Schools of the Chicago Archdiocese. He was given a tour of the facility by the school's new principal and visited all the classrooms. Dr. Rigg was very impressed with the students, teachers and campus and how St. Al's has grown in the last couple of years. At St. Al's, students receive a well-rounded education to promote spiritual, academic, physical and emotional growth. In addition to excelling in academics, arts and athletics the students learn to serve others and become better disciples of Jesus. St. Alphonsus school is very excited to be celebrating excellence in education since 1958, and looks forward to continued growth in the future. Tours of the school are always available.
