Four-foot alligator pulled from Lake Michigan in Waukegan

When it comes to aquatic life, the waters of Lake Michigan are best known for its salmon, trout and perch.

So you can imagine the surprise Monday when authorities in Waukegan fished an unexpected creature out of the lake - an alligator.

The Waukegan Police Animal Control and staff at Larsen Marine Service, Inc. pulled the 4-foot gator from the lake Monday after receiving a call from someone who spotted the reptile. The call was followed up by a video showing the alligator slowly swimming in the water, officials said in a Facebook post Monday.

The alligator is being transported to the Wildlife Discovery Center in Lake Forest, officials said.
