Lightning strike causes house fire in Bartlett

A house in Bartlett was damaged Friday night by a fire caused by a lightning strike, authorities said.

No one was injured in the blaze that happened on the 100 block of Fountain Grass Circle, according to a news release from the Bartlett Fire Protection District.

Firefighters responded to a call at 10:02 p.m. and found smoke coming out of the second-floor roof, officials said. Crews entered the house to combat the fire from the inside. They also searched the home for trapped occupants.

Officials said firefighters had to open walls and ceilings in the affected room to expose and extinguish the blaze.

The fire was declared under control at 10:17 p.m. Firefighters then continued to ventilate smoke and perform salvage and overhaul activities.

Authorities said a damage estimate wasn't available. The fire is being investigated by Bartlett fire district investigators.

The fire was fought by 27 firefighters staffing three fire engines, two ladder trucks and two ambulances. Four command officers and one fire investigator also responded to the scene.

The Bartlett Fire Protection District was assisted by units from South Elgin, Hanover Park, and Streamwood. Bartlett police assisted at the scene with traffic and crowd control.
