Bicyclist struck by truck in Elk Grove Village

A bicyclist is hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a truck Friday morning in Elk Grove Village, authorities said.

The biker was struck at the intersection of Lively Boulevard and Howard Street at 8:09 a.m. in the village's business park, police said. The truck, carrying a trailer, was headed south on Lively, and the cyclist was traveling west on Howard.

Elk Grove paramedics treated him at the scene and took him to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. His injuries were described as serious, but not life threatening, police said.

The police department's traffic section is investigating the cause of the crash.
